Cellist Zuill Bailey is one of the most multi-faceted, popular and innovative classical musicians today. He will be the special guest on December 8 for two special concerts with the Hiland Mountain Correctional Center Women’s Orchestra in Alaska. Here he will continue to work to inspire the women who have dedicated time and commitment to classical music to soothe, heal and provide the fellow musicians with inspiration that can help them find their way back to society.
One such musician, Sarah Coffman, has been part of the Women’s Orchestra since its inception in 2003. She completed her 14-year sentence in February and will return and perform as a citizen for the first time. “Sarah is a wonderful example of the rehabilitative and redemptive power of music,” Bailey said.
For more than two decades, he has worked to sculpt cultural landscapes in his quest to strengthen communities artistically around the world. Mr. Bailey’s vision is to make classical music accessible, with education and enrichment as his primary goal. In addition to travelling 250 days a year as a performing artist, he has created a unique platform for concert series’ in Alaska (Sitka Summer Music Festival), Texas, (El Paso Pro-Musica) and Washington State, (Northwest Bach Festival). His mission is to target all students and individuals in the respective areas, fostering regional cultural development promoted by music appreciation, understanding and promotion of the fine arts. He believes that great music transforms lives.
The concerts are set for 12:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. at the Hiland Women’s Correctional Facility in Eagle River, Alaska. For more information go to
